On this important day in history, Gavin is spending the night at his Grandma's house due to our work schedule and the fact that Mommy is very sick with a bad cold. He won't remember this day in his first year of life and obviously will not understand why it means so much to our country. But I am posting this in his first year "blog" so he can read about it when he is older.
We are not a very political family and I have never had much interest in politics. That being said, I think today's presidential election is a VERY important one for the future of our country and most importantly, the future of our child. So, we will be voting today. I have not been overly impressed by either presidential candidate. I think both John McCain and Barack Obama have the potential to be good leaders of our country. But, both Daddy and I agree with the views and stances ( such as pro-choice) of Barack Obama more than that of McCain. Our struggling economy needs a change and we think Obama has more effective ideas on how to improve the economy and healthcare system (yes, even if it means taking from the rich and giving to the poor). So our vote goes to Obama! If he wins, he will be the first African American United States president. Whatever the outcome of this election, there will be change. So, here's to a better economy and a better future for our children....

Kara, I am so impressed with this post and your eloquent thoughts. I agree with you! I voted for Obama and my choice was based largely on my concern for all of the wonderful kids in my life. Today, I feel a sense of hope for our country that I haven't felt in a long time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
